Save water together
Clean drinking water is fundamental to our existence, yet millions of people still lack access to it. Millions and millions of people worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water. World Water Day aims to draw attention to the importance of fresh and potable water and support the sustainable management of limited resources, addressing the global water crisis.
Most of us take access to clean drinking water for granted, but according to the United Nations estimates, by 2030, billions of people will not have the guaranteed right to clean water unless more drastic measures are taken to reduce consumption. Decades of improper use, poor management, over-extraction of groundwater, and contamination of freshwater reserves have exacerbated water stress. Additionally, countries are facing growing challenges related to the degradation of aquifer ecosystems, water scarcity caused by climate change, and a lack of investments to improve water systems, among other issues.
Clean water is so crucial because it can dramatically change people's lives. Contaminated water can cause diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and hepatitis. Therefore, it is important to invest in education and awareness to understand what each of us can do to contribute to the cause and conserve water consumption. For all these reasons, the 22nd of March is an invitation to strengthen our commitment to improving water quality, eliminating waste, and promoting responsible usage as part of efforts to combat climate change.
