PLANT THE FUTURE: ELGON AND COOPI TRAINING PROJECT TO HELP SIERRA LEONE
We decided to tell the commitment of Elgon and the first person experience of Serena Caimano - gone to the villages of Sierra Leone to meet the workers involved - just to raise awareness of the problems in disadvantaged parts of the world. We chose to support young women, wives and mothers who need to learn a trade to become independent and support their family. And we have decided that our help will pass precisely through training, an intangible good, difficult to monetize, yet strategic if used correctly. Thanks to the support of the many visitors to the Elgon stand who then purchased our products, we were able to collect 301 hours of training to donate to the COOPI cause.
The intention is to give the female population of Sierra Leone the tools to build their future with awareness, starting an export market of cashew. From here comes "Plant the Future", a program that has as its core activity the 360-degree knowledge of the production chain related to this precious fruit. For this reason, sessions of courses on food hygiene, cultivation and the management of fields in which more and more women participate are fundamental.
It is a long and tiring journey that we are proud to have undertaken, convinced that with a good dose of solidarity we can offer a true hope to those born in a less fortunate area of the world.
For this we thank one by one all those who have supported us so far by believing together with us in this project. We are only at the beginning of the road, but we are working hard to find more and more effective solutions to help Sierra Leone, even thinking about a direct way of donation.
